George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, evacuated their residence in France due to the devastating wildfires in Europe driven by extreme heatwaves. Many people from the southern region of the country were forced to leave their homes as a consequence of unpredictable winds and erratic fires. However, the couple penned a reassuring note to the mayor of Brignoles, where they live with their 9-year-old twins.

George and Amal stood with their French community during the destructive times, when the fires affected France, Spain, Italy, and Greece. The couple, who stay in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southern France, confirmed their evacuation to the authorities. “Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the letter read, per PEOPLE. “As we evacuate Brignoles, we want to emphasise 2 things: first, we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole (sic),” the note concluded, and added, “We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”In a 2025 interview with Esquire, George Clooney opened up about living a life greater than the chaotic Hollywood culture. “A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,” he explained his decision to make France their primary residence, and added, “But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”

According to the Associated Press, the dangerous fires in France are four times the size of Paris. As per the CNN report, roughly 42,000 hectares of land had been burned in Gironde, and around 4,800 hectares in Landes.
