The Medical Counselling Committee, or MCC, is starting NEET UG counselling 2026 registrations today, August 5. This counselling is only for admissions under the 15% All India Quota, deemed universities, central universities, ESIC, AFMS, AIIMS, JIPMER and a few other participating institutions.According to the official schedule, the Round 1 registration window opens today on the MCC counselling portal. Candidates who have cleared NEET UG 2026 can register online at mcc.nic.in.
Where to check updates
It’s important that candidates only trust official websites for anything related to counselling. Here’s a quick breakdown of which site does what:
- mcc.nic.in — this is where registration, choice filling, seat allotment and reporting schedules will be posted.
- neet.nta.nic.in (the National Testing Agency’s NEET website) and examinationservices.nic.in (the NEET candidate portal) — these can be used to check scorecards, application details and exam records.
One more thing to keep in mind: if you’re hoping to get a seat under the 85% state quota, you’ll need to register separately on your state’s own counselling portal. State counselling runs independently of the MCC process, so registering with MCC alone won’t cover it.

What’s new this year
This year, MCC has brought in a few tech-based changes so that candidates don’t have to keep visiting colleges again and again. The biggest one is a one-time physical reporting system.Here’s how it works: if you pick the “Freeze” option after your seat is allotted, you’ll need to go to the allotted institute once to finish your admission formalities. If you pick “Float” instead, you can still take part in later rounds while your documents get verified online — and you’ll only need to physically report after the third round, and only if you’re still holding a seat by then.MCC has also added an online resignation facility. This means if you’re eligible and want to give up your allotted seat, you can now do it through the counselling portal itself, without having to visit the institution in person.A few other changes worth knowing about: document verification can now be done online, NRI admissions have been digitised, there are expanded facilities for candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwBD), cybersecurity has been strengthened, and the grievance redressal system has also been improved.
Documents you’ll need
Before you start registering, keep these documents ready:
- NEET UG 2026 scorecard and admit card
- Class 10 certificate (as proof of date of birth)
- Class 12 mark sheet and passing certificate
- A valid government photo ID
- Passport-size photographs
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS), if applicable
- PwBD certificate, if applicable
- Domicile certificate, wherever required
- Documents supporting NRI candidature, if you’re applying under the NRI quota
- Any other document mentioned in the MCC Information Bulletin or asked for by the allotted institution
What happens after registration
Once you’ve registered, you’ll need to pay the counselling fee, and then fill and lock your choices of colleges and courses within the given time limit. Seat allotment will depend on your NEET UG 2026 rank, your reservation category, the choices you’ve filled, and how many seats are actually available.
